Statement
My work examines how identity is shaped by memory, displacement, and the global circulation of images. Beginning with
reconstructed fragments of my childhood and migration, I developed a process grounded in stitching, deconstruction, and
recomposition. This evolved into paintings where drawn lines act as connective threads, allowing different geographies—
cultural, temporal, and emotional—to merge and destabilize one another.
Growing up in Iran under the influence of imported Western imagery, I remain interested in how mass-produced icons travel
across borders and shape personal and collective narratives. One of my vivid childhood recollections is of a rubber Mickey
Mouse, whose cheerful exterior gradually gave way as its metal skeleton punctured through, unsettling the image I thought I
had known.
By merging elements of personal history with widely circulated cultural archetypes, my work creates open, layered stories
that explore belonging, rupture, and the possibility of historical balance through reinvention.
